How to Get Started with NF Steps run/walk

7:00 am Registration begins
7:30 am Prewalk events and activities begin
8:00 am Will kick off our 10k run , 5k run/walk, kids 1/2 mile fun
run and a trike a thon for the toddlers
Register by May 1 and receive a free NF Steps T-shirt and a NFC goodie bag
Registration Fee: $25.00 per person $12.00 children 4 to 10 years old Children 3 and under free (no shirt)

Activities: We have activities planned throughout the day including a talent show for everyone. Children will enjoy the carnival~like atmosphere. The children's play area is filled with tricycles, toys, balls, bubbles, and many other activities. A great social time for the adults and a time to meet others that understand what we go thru. You will not want to miss the Silent Auction, Live DJ, Raffle Prizes, Arts & Crafts, Prizes and much, much more....
You can now register online for the California NF Steps Run/Walk. This year, registration has been set-up with FirstGiving.com, an easy-to-use online system.
Step 1: Register onlineWalk as an individual. Start your own team. Join a team. Simply
click here to register online. You can also create a personal online fundraising page and/or start a team! Engage your family and friends! A team is an excellent source of inspiration and support, and in turn, results in more effective fundraising. You can walk as an individual, join a team or start your own team with your family, friends, co-workers, classmates or any other group. After you form a team, create a team name and elect a team captain who will be responsible for distributing/collecting information to and from team members. Be creative and create one-of-a-kind team T-shirts.
Step 2: Set a Personal Goal
NFC’s goal for 2010 is to raise more then $55,000.00. Even if you’ve never raised a dime before, you’ll discover you can be an incredible fundraiser. And you’ll be amazed at the generosity of others who support your efforts! Like Oprah says “Give Big” and make a difference. There is no minimum requirement to participate, however NFC encourages everyone to set a fundraising goal of $100 or more. We welcome all donations.
Step 3: Collect Your Pledges
Collect donations to sponsor your participation in NF Steps! Donation money raised is to be brought to the walk/race and turned in at the registration table or you can create a team and turn in your donation money one week early to collect your t-shirts and race numbers. Make checks payable to NF, Inc. California or NFC.
On the day of the walk, check in at the registration table and turn in your donations. Enjoy a great day of fun.
Step 4: ~Self Walk~
If you already have something planned for June 5 and can’t make it to the walk, you can still support NF steps by donating to a participant. If you don’t know someone who is walking you can make a general donation on our website. Grab your family, friends and neighbors and walk in your local park, like the Pritchard's did last year.

Step 5: Matching Donations/Corporate Partner Don’t forget to ask your employer about matching your donation dollars. Contact your human resources department. Many companies select charities to support based their employees’ and customers’ dedication to those charities. Our concept is to approach employers and favorite businesses of NF, Inc. California members. Neurofibromatosis is a life changing diagnosis and NF, Inc. California does make a difference in the lives of those affected. If employers/businesses see us fighting for and believing in this cause, they will be more likely to contribute. All you have to do is include a letter (see fundraising tools for sample letter) with your packet and pass this information to your employer/business. If we all work together, just imagine the possibilities! We will make a difference in the lives of so many.
Step 5: Volunteer Opportunities
NFC can use volunteers in various committees. If you are interested in helping NFC with this wonderful event. Please send an email to events@nfcalifornia.org. Volunteer opportunities range from being in charge of a committee, helping a committee, helping for a few hours at a time, taking a task and completing it in your home/home town and volunteering on the day of the walk.

Corporate Sponsors Needed!!!!
Right now we are looking for Corporate sponsors for our NF Steps run/walk in California. When a business helps support our walk, it promotes both the business and NF Awareness.
We have several sponsorship levels available. Those levels correspond with promotion on walk t-shirts, signs, the NFC website, Firstgiving, and Facebook. Additionally, corporate sponsors receive walk entries based on their donation level. Having a team and walking with us is another great way to get positive business exposure! Media coverage of the walk increases each year. Now is the perfect time to join us and share in the rewards!
